Ink, wax, and oil pastels on paper

Yesterday’s painting was a preparation for a new technique for me — working with wax on paper. Today’s work has an underpainting of ink on paper, which is entirely covered in encaustic medium. I drew a solid circle with black oil pastels on top of the wax, then scraped away the pastels to reveal the translucent wax beneath. I think this technique has interesting effects and possibilities and I’m looking forward to experimenting this week!
